Utilities
Electric
Electric ratepayers in Clallam County enjoy some of the lowest power rates in the United States. Clallam County Public Utilities District PUD) customers pay 6.2 cents/kilowatt hour (kwh) and City of Port Angeles customers pay 4.75 cents/kwh. These figures compare to the U.S. national average of 8.39 cents/kwh and California's average rate of 11.3 cents/kwh.
Elected officials govern both utilities: the City by the seven-member city council, the PUD, by a three-member County Commission. Port Angeles and the PUD are statutory preference customers of the Bonneville Power Administration. Typical industrial electrical bills are:
Demand
500kW-200MWH
- City of Port Angeles - $6,575
- PUD - $7,043
150kW-30MWh
- City of Port Angeles - $1,433
- PUD - $1,437
National and Regional Bill Comparisons
Direct bill comparisons are difficult due to differing tax structures and usage levels for the various utilities. The bottom line is the cost of utility services in the Northwest is low compared to the rest of the country and Port Angeles utility costs are below the average for the region. The table shown below lists some average electric utility rates (cents per kwh) for residential customers in Port Angeles, Washington State, the Pacific Northwest (Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Western Montana) and the Country.
